LES MOTS DE LA SEMAINE
About this Program:
Grade Three French Immersion marks a transition from a primarily oral-based program to an increased focus on writing-reading-listening based program, and though the major focus of the program remains oral, it is important to also practice the written language. Students will be focusing on the different Words of the Week and phonetic sounds, rhymes, grammar rules, punctuation, pronunciation and content through poems and/or curriculum-based texts/songs etc.
This year's French Words of the Week will be drawn from a variety of sources. Some weeks we will focus on the most frequently written words. Other times, we will draw on words with common sounds, or similar patterns. Yet other lists will be comprised of content words linked to our Social Studies and Science and Technology themes. Speaking the language remains a central focus of the program. Every evening your child is encouraged to review these French words in order to enhance their understanding and be able to use them in oral conversations and in written pieces.
Students are introduced to « Les Mots de la Semaine » every Monday, which they will record in their agenda. They will be encouraged to use these vocabulary words in small and whole group discussions. Students can be assessed on these words through listening opportunities (ex. Test d'écoute (listening tests) and/or writing activities. The students are expected to apply and spell them correctly in independent writing (ex. Journal writing, Recount, Retell, Descriptive Writing, etc.) If your child is absent on Monday or did not have enough time to record them in class, they are expected to get them from my website.
With your help, we will begin to see the children taking even greater pride in their French achievement. Many thanks for the time and energy you spend with your child to help support their learning.
